Reunion Information

ATTENTION ON DECK!!

USS Coontz Reunion, 2017

The USS Coontz (DLG9/DDG40) returns to the Rose Festival City of Portland, Oregon on September 14-17 .  Our reunion will be at the Hyatt House Portland Downtown. The Hotel was just opened in August 2106.  It is located downtown, with easy access from the airport and to all the interesting parts of the city though a combination of Bus, Street Cars or the lite Rail system if you care to wander around on your own.  To make your reservations, you can call the Hotel directly at (503) 241-2775 or go on their web site at:
https://portlanddowntown.house.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html?corp_id=G-COON

When you call please use the phrase  ‘G-COON’ to get the Coontz Rate.

The rates negotiated for the Hotel are $149 plus tax (Down from $225).
Not to worry, your total cost per couple will be less than Charleston and similar to other Reunions. Byron Anderson (FTM2, 1962-1964) and Red Bennett (1963-1964) have put together some interesting venues for us to enjoy. By incorporating lots of inexpensive and free venues they have been able to hold the reunion fee to only $115/person. This incudes not one dinner but two!

(Deadline for Registration at the Hotel is August 18)

The negotiated rates apply three days before and after the reunion.  There are some wonderful things to take in if you’d like to spend more time in the area. We’ll be sending you a list of things you might want to consider visiting.  Fall is a great time to visit the North West.

When we selected Portland for our West Coast reunion, none of us were aware of the Oregon and Portland Laws that are in effect.  Andy was lucky to find a hotel that has been very accommodating and has helped him “bend but not break” any laws.
We will publish this on the Web Site, on Facebook, and will use snail mail and e-mail to get the word to as many Coontz Sailors as we can find.  If you have kept in touch with other Coontz sailors, please pass this on to them and encourage them to come to this reunion.  And, please start planning for September in Portland!!!  Please signup as soon as you are able, so we can finalize all the details of what promises to be a fun time together in Portland.

Portland will be Exciting, so plan to join us.
